‘Cheating Scandal’ Hong Sang-soo Skips Daughter’s Wedding, Wife Says “That’s Just How He Is”
On January 20, the YouTube channel “Entertainment President Lee Jin-ho” uploaded a video mentioning Kim Min-hee and Hong Sang-soo. In the video, it was claimed that Hong did not attend the wedding of his only daughter, born from his marriage with his estranged wife.
YouTuber Lee Jin-ho stated “Hong Sang-soo’s only daughter got married 2~3 years ago, but shockingly, Hong did not attend her wedding. Not only did he skip the event, but he also reportedly didn’t even give a congratulatory gift”, leaving viewers stunned.
He explained, “A close acquaintance of his wife, who witnessed the situation, said, ‘Isn’t Hong Sang-soo going too far?’ But the wife, showing no change in her expression, simply said, ‘That’s just how he is.’”
Lee Jin-ho continued, “Though she seemed calm on the outside, it’s hard to imagine the emotional impact of him not attending his daughter’s wedding and not even offering a gift. It must have been deeply painful for both mother and daughter.”
Furthermore, Hong reportedly didn’t attend the funeral of his mother-in-law, who had supported his daughter’s overseas education in his place. Lee Jin-ho revealed, “The rumors of Hong Sang-soo having a ₩120 billion inheritance and the claims that he cut off his daughter’s education funding after his affair with Kim Min-hee are entirely false.”
He clarified, “According to acquaintances, Hong has long been known as a stingy person, so it’s unlikely he ever funded his daughter’s education. Her education expenses were covered by her maternal grandmother, Hong’s mother-in-law.”
Lee Jin-ho added, “Hong’s wife attended high school and college in the U.S. and obtained permanent residency in 1980, which indicates financial stability. Her mother, who adored her granddaughter, paid for her entire education. Despite this, Hong Sang-soo didn’t show up at his mother-in-law’s funeral.”
Meanwhile, it’s reported that Hong’s partner, Kim Min-hee, is currently six months pregnant after conceiving naturally last summer and is expecting to give birth this spring. On January 17, Dispatch revealed that Hong and Kim were spotted at an obstetrics clinic two days prior, reporting, “Despite public scrutiny, Hong Sang-soo has been by Kim Min-hee’s side throughout the pregnancy check-ups, showing unwavering support.”
